TribeTuesday Hashtag – What is it all about?

February 3rd, 2010 by DrJon

TribeTuesday – Recommended Content?

I assume you have heard about #FollowFriday concept that was started on Twitter in the beginning of 2009.

Basically, it is a concept where you add the hashtag #FollowFriday to every tweet you make where you recommend people to follow someone on Twitter. (and it is usually send out on Fridays)

A few months ago, my good friend and tribe teammate Kary Rogney introduced the new hashtag #TribeTuesday that we use when we are having the content syndication power hour with our social media tribes. This #TribeTuesday has quickly become a big buzzword on Tuesdays on Twitter (but also to some extent on Facebook) and basically it is a tag to show that the tweet contains recommended content from a tribe member.

It could be a blog post, an article, a video or maybe a recommendation to visit a site with valuable information.
If you do a search on twitter for the hashtag #tribetuesday you will end up with hundreds of results and I believe that within a recent amount of time, this will be a trending Tuesday topic on Twitter.

So, every time you see a #tribetuesday hashtag in a tweet in the future, you know where it is coming from and (hopefully) it will be a tweet with valuable content.

If you want more information about Social Media Tribes you should check out my blog post that explains all about it here

Follow Friday Strategy – Do You Have One?

November 7th, 2009 by DrJon

Follow Friday strategy?

-What do you mean?

If you are on Twitter, I’m sure you know what follow Friday is (and if you aren’t on Twitter yet, sign up for a free account and start tweeting).
Anyway, follow Friday is a very good concept that someone invented to tell their followers which people they recommend on Twitter.

I think the intentions for this was very good when it first started out a long time ago, but as of now, it has (to some extent) evolved to look more like a kind of spam.
Heck, people even hijack your twitter id (and your attention) by using it together with the followfriday hashtag (#ff of #followfriday) and their own affiliate link (or some other crappy link).

Ok, this post isn’t about how to aviod these hijackers but my intentions are to get you to think about how you use this follow friday hashtag.

I believe that the power of Followfriday (from your point of view) will be much greater if you try to stand out from the crowd when you tweet your #ff tweets.
You see, most people just throw in the hashtag and a bunch of twitter IDs there with no description what so ever who these people are. A few maybe add a single word to describe why they recommend these tweeters (like “Leader”, “Favourite” or something) and even less people gives a better motivation.

What I suggest You should do is that when you send out a #followfriday for some people that you want to recommend, you should throw in a short motivation why you recommend this or these people. By doing this, you will stand out a lot from the crowd and it will result in those recommended people getting more followers then by just an ordinary shout out and tt will also give you more credibility in the eyes of the person that is recommended!
:)

I believe it is a win-win situation to do this so start develop a plan for how you should do next time it is Friday!

What are Your Goals with Social Media?

October 16th, 2009 by DrJon

What Are Your Plans and Goals by Using Social Media?

Do you have a strategy or plan for using social media or are you one of those who planeless are surfing around, chatting with friends and just try to have fun?
Well, if you are in business you will definitely need to have some sort of plan and goals what you want to achieve!

As you probably are aware of since you are reading this blogpost, is that social media can be used with any type of business and the level of Success is to a huge extent depending on consistency and know what you want out of it.

I use social media for basically two reasons. To keep in touch with personal friends and family, but also to build my personal brand and prescence online by utilizing the power of relationships.

If you are an entrepreneur, it is important to have some kind of plan on how to use social media for your business. When you know how to use it in a proper way (not just pitching and selling, but building relationships) you will have a BIG advantage over 95% the people that are using social media for marketing.

Because the fact is, MOST PEOPLE have NO CLUE on how to use social media the right way. Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, Blogs etc.. Yes, People know that they CAN use these sites for marketing but almost everyone are using them the wrong way.

So, how can I say that it is the wrong way?
Well, most people don’t want to be pitched and sold as soon as they get a new friend on Twitter or Facebook. Most people want to build relationships first, before they trust a perosn so much that they’ll take business advice from them.

I think you get what I mean if I say that you should not pitch and try to sell someone when you first meet them and shake their hand in real life. Meeting people on Twitter or Facebook is now different than that.

So why are still so many people still doing it the wrong way?
Well, One of my goals is to help people and teach them to market in the best possible way. And when it comes to Social Media, it’s definitely relationships first!

Looking forward to connect with you even more in the future!
