Why You Should Focus on One? (Day 21)

September 3rd, 2009 by DrJon

[tweetmeme] This is The Power of One!

If you are something like me, you are a person that tends to be working on too many projects at the same time and haveing too many plates to handle.

Some people claims it is a good skill to be able to multitask. Before I would have agreed on that but I’ve recently come to the conclusion that multitasking isn’t always a good thing.
In fact, it can actually decrease your productivity enormously and, if you’re not careful, extend the time you have to work on projects before you will start to see a positive cashflow.

An example of this is when you are focusing on several different marketing methods before you have mastered any one of them.

If you focus on three methods instead of one at a time, It can actually take more than twice as long time to get a positive cashflow from any one of the methods compared to if you would have focused on one at a time. This is something I discuss in my video above.

I can agree that multitasking is good in some areas and for some purposes but one must beware that if done in a wrong context it can actually decrease your over all productivity and performance.

I hope this helps and give you some insights on WHY it is so important with focus! :)

Please share your view and give me some comments about this!
I want to know what you think!

To Your Success,
Dr Jon

Have you read the book “The Myth of Multi-Tasking?” Great – short read!

    Dr Jon,

I really like the way you broke this down to easy understandable steps. You loose money when you don’t focus on one thing at a time. That’s pretty clear for me.

I heard someone said that focus is Follow One Course Until Successful. This post hit me square between the eyes, but it’s just what I needed.

    Right on Jon!

Focus is key. I read something
today from Osho talking about being
    centered.

When we are ‘centered’ we are focused,
and when are focused it creates an
    explosion of energy.

Most people are trying to do too MANY
things at once, and their energy becomes
    scattered… resulting in no power.

Thanks for the share my friend!

Jon, I’d been so guilty of doing
too many things at the same
    time and getting little done!

    Now I’ve gotten much better
and am getting much more done
    systematically!

Thanks for the reminders and tips!

Great Point. I can definately relate to juggling multiple tasks all at once. Eben Pagan says the same thing about multi-tasking. He recommends having a timer right next to you and doing nothing but focus on one task for 50 minutes. Take a 10 minute break and go onto the next task.
