[tweetmeme]The News Affect Your State of Mind!
Yes, The News Affects you in many more ways than you may realize.
Maybe you are thinking that the news is only a way of transfer stories of what is going on around the world but it is so much more to it than that.
When you are watching news on television, reading in a newspaper or online, you will always create images in your mind of what is going on.
If you watch motion pictures, you normally use your imagination to think even further (consiously or unconsiously) about the actual happening and on a subconcious level your subconcious mind is also working on the happening in its own way. This would not be much of a problem if it were not for that the majority of news is negative in some way. They are nomally about accidents, war, disease and other negative happenings and positive news are actually quite rare.
Why is it so?
Well, Negativity, Fear and Scarcity sells! Stories that create and touch peoples emotions are the best in a comercial way.
So, watching this majorly of negative news will have your mind focused on negativity and negative things and if you do watch it on regular basis it will contribute to your experience of life being more negative as well and as the Law of Attraction says, what you focus on you will get more of, you will drawn more of what is negative into your reality. (even if you are not aware of what the Law of Attraction is or don’t belive in it I hope you can see that this is something that make sense anyway.)
I can say from my own experience that cutting out 90% of the news from my life during the past 2 years have definitely contributed to that my life has been taking a more positive (and joyful) route.
If you really thinking about it, the positive things that are happening in the world that you can actually focus upon are far many more than the negative ones. By cutting out news from your life (you can do it little by little if that feels more comfortable) you will soon start to experience more positive things appearing in your life.
Life is all about FEELING GOOD and you will start getting more of that when you cut out negativity from your life. :)
I would definitely appreciate if you will give me a comment or thought about this concept.
To a more Positive Reality,
Dr Jon Alfredsson
PS. Of course it will also help to cut out other negative things from your life than just the news. :)
Negative “friends”, co-workers or other people that you are surrounded with for example.
Surround yourself with Greatness and Positivity and some of it will rub off! :D

Dr Jon,
Great post about how the news affects your mind. It’s truly amazing how we can hear a negative story and it’s soon being passed around like the next best thing. Most people don’t understand the damaging affects this has. I really liked what you said about “…Negativity, Fear and Scarcity sells!” It’s sad but true.
I have also taken that choice to not listen to negative news. I believe we need to stay informed, however I pick only what I want to watch and listen to. I’m even seeing the results of how negative news affects my own children. It’s time we take a stand to raise the next generation with affirmations and love not with negativity and hopelessness.
Keep fighting the good fight.

Jon, I couldn’t agree with you more. The only thing more negative than watching/reading the news is being with people who talk about nothing else *but* the news.
I too avoid “the news” whenever possible. It’s difficult, but it’s worth it, and it’s very freeing. I am a firm believer in positive energy: having it, sharing it, and seeking it out in like-minded people.
Thanks, Jon~
Rosina
Dr. Jon,
I couldn’t agree more! I very rarely watch the news. Not only is it full of negativity and hopelessness, but it is usually one sided.

Dr. Jon,
Thank-you for this post.
TV FREE AND LOVING IT
We stopped all TV three years ago, and have since stopped all radio and newspapers – with the following exceptions: once a year I watch the Tour de France coverage on TV, I regularly listen to Classics FM radio and scan the weekend papers for film, art and book reviews.
The result: fantastic – and addictive! The benefits are too numerous to list here, but include having a blast doing my hobbies, learning three languages, reading HUNDREDS of books, spending heaps more time with the people I love – not to mention avoiding the deluge of negativity that can be sprayed into your life from purveyors of bad news.
TV, radio etc is great for those who like it. No problem, but there is a world without mass media, and it’s fabulous.
Best, Robin

I really like this post! The news is almost always one sided and they report mostly on negative stuff. You never see much about the good stuff happening in the world.
You know the saying…Negativity breeds Negativity!
Stay positive people!

I agree 100%…I’m a political junky, but I have to turn it off. So much negativity. It takes effort to stay positive. Garbage in Garbage out right…

Dude, I enjoy not watching or reading the news. It feels like I get sucked into a trap when I see the paper and want to avoid it but can’t avoid a peek. It is like the feeling I get when a person is gossiping. I want to ignore them but that little piece of evil curiosity is piqued. I like the comment about the law-of-attraction and paying attention to negative stuff. Good article!

Great post. The news is almost totally negative, and the radio talk shows are completely negative. You have to walk a balance between being informed and not being dragged down by the negativity.

I have to admit I’ve become a news junky since the elections in 2008. As a result, I am a political activist and feel people need to get more involved in what is happening in our country. One way of doing this is through staying informed and getting your news from various sources, not just the tv.
I gather news from around the world via the net, twitter is great for this, and get various views and perspectives, including from blogs. I also get news from talk radio…I learn more each day. I find this a positive thing because I am more aware of what is going on in the world and within our government that will affect me and my children’s future.
I am a realist and do not believe in keeping our heads in the sand and ignoring reality around us. We just need to balance it out with hobbies and other interests, while including family time and religion in our lives. We also need to explain things to our children in child friendly terms so that they understand and are not afraid of what happens in the world, but teach them how they can help or protect themselves, ie:Haiti earthquake and other issues such as child abductions, etc.
This post is interesting and I agree we need to keep positive and balanced despite all the negative in the news or around us, but it is vital we stay proactive and involved in matters that concern our lives and those of future generations. Or their lives may not be so positive as a result.
Thanks for the post and opportunity to share my thoughts…I came across this via twitter, where I also find a lot of great resources and news I would not have known about, such as your site :-)
Have a nice day!

Hi Dr Jon: Is is just the news? The food & beverage industry and the drug companies have and are spending billions of dollars paying the best advertising marketing people in the world to tweak our buttons and they sure know how to buy stuff that is bad for us all for profit. Count how many commercial are run just watching TV shows. The news is just the sensational advertising stuff. Appreciate your informative posts. Thanks
